Ongoing activities related to dust impacts in the Caribbean
Summary
The Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) hosts the Pan-American Regional Centre for the World Meteorological Organization Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System (WMO SDS-WAS). As one of its primary activities, the CIMH has provided dust and air quality forecasts for the Caribbean using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model coupled with Chemistry (WRF-Chem).
Other activities we have been involved in include the Caribbean Aerosol-Health Network (CAHN) and providing daily weather and dust briefings from June-August 2020 and 2021 for the Caribbean Air-quality Alert and Management Assistance System-Public Health (CALIMA-PH) Summer Intensive Field Campaign. We have also been providing Sahara dust advisories for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Health and Energy Sectors for distribution within their network
