Air Quality in Abu Dhabi

Data from the Abu Dhabi air quality monitoring network available

Data from the Abu Dhabi air quality monitoring network, operated by the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency (EAD) are available at http://www.adairquality.ae/en/home.aspx. The major air pollutants which are monitored by EAD’s network are Sulfur dioxide, Carbon monoxide, Nitrogen dioxide, Ozone and PM10.

For the past five years, all pollutant levels have been within the allowed national limits and standards, except for PM10 and ozone. The PM10 has the major impact regarding air quality, due to its significant exceedence of the acceptable limit for longer periods, while Ozone rarely exceeds the acceptable limit and for short time.

The most important contributors to air pollution are natural dust storms from the desert which is typical for the emirate and the surrounding areas; Energy sector, road traffic in major cities and industrial sources.
